Currently I'm adventuring in our nation's Capitol and attempting to balance learning new things for work, seeing old friends and finding new things to love about traveling. The last time I traveled more than 80 miles from home, I was a little underprepared mostly because I didn't know what to expect in terms of weather.

A week ago, when I checked the weather, the mid-Atlantic was expecting upper 60's to mid-70's and mild weather with a chance of rain and I developed this packing list for the occasion. Aside from the essentials you may not have thought of (like reading material, band-aids and comfortable walking shoes), my list includes reminders to bring cash, a hairbrush and heels you can work in).

Using that list, I've put together a few outfits; for the plane, for a night out and for a day not at rest to provide some outfit inspiration:

Boarding pass.

Sweaters like the one above are great for layering on chilly planes, being cozy before bed or an evening stroll. Paired with jeans and shoes that are easy to remove (and a good book to boot), you're ready for comfort 30,000 feet up or just 30 plus miles away.

Night out.

Night out.

Black is an easy default when you're wining, dining or just taking in unfamiliar places. It goes with everything and never looks too causal. Paired with bright nails or a bright lip and sleek shoes, leave everything else to minimalism.

9-to-5.

9-to-5.

With a solid, neutral base as your background, stand out colors like teal or peach still look professional. With classic pieces like a crisp blazer, a sleek tote and a natural lip, you can have fun with your wardrobe without being confused for an intern.
