And so ends another great week in 2016; another getaway, another nap curled up on the couch, another lunch comprised of leftovers from brunch and another week where I wore a sweater to work backwards by accident. I love 2016 already. Everything about its sleep-in-late-and-watch-The-Hangover-3-while-your-boyfriend-makes-breakfast kind of mood has been good for my soul. It’s been a long time coming but I think that 2016 is going to be quite the year.

Me. Now that the quarter-life crisis seems to largely be over, I can finally breathe and enjoy every little moment of every day without waiting for the other shoe to drop. I was very fortunate to have a great support system over the course of the past year to lift me up when the self-doubt set in and I will always be thankful for a certain mentor, best friend and favorite city for keeping me hungry when I started running low on inspiration.

Weekend mornings. The end of 2015 had me up on the earlier side of Saturday mornings with my hair in a ballet bun and a leotard under my leggings. I’ve been really lucky to get to connect with my inner child and love of teaching and I can’t imagine my weekends without it. This session (from now until the end of March), I’m the lead teacher with more than a dozen little ones enrolled across three classes. When most days end in hugs, getting up early is so worth it.

New Hampshire. The first few days of the year were spent making new friends in New Hampshire. I learned that snow can be terrifying when street lights are basically nonexistent, the best way to heat up a cold bed is to snuggle and when it comes to outlet shopping, I am QUEEN.

Work. I am excited to announce, for those who don’t know me personally, that I have accepted and will be starting a new job in the next couple of weeks. I’m still in the same industry (politics) but I’ve accepted an official (non-campaign) position with a former boss who has been a wonderful source of stories and motivation the past few years.

Happiness. If you do nothing else this year, find one person or thing that makes you happy. For me, this happened towards the end of last year, capping off what had not been the greatest year of my life with some of the greatest memories I have made yet. Make it a point to have a kind of sat-at-the-bar-with-one-drink-and-talked-for-three-hours experience with someone or about something your truly hate to tear yourself away from. 2016 is about being happy and if you’re not spending time with people who make you happy, you’re doing it wrong.
